Seeing Old Friends

Tonight was one of those nights that takes you back five years and lets you remember all the good times you had. We had sort of a reunion get together of our youth group back when I first started entering youth (so I was in gr 9, so seven years ago) and a lot of the people that were in that group at that time showed up. It’s amazing to see where God takes people and how he molds them to become that people that He wants them to be.

I was never super close with any of them, I was the younger one just trying to make my friends at that time, but I still built relationships with a lot of them. Some of them are working and staying at home, others are in Bible College or at Hillsongs College in Australia, some are pastors and others are married with kids. As I look back into all the lives and hear stories of what God is doing now it’s pretty encouraging. At times I was disturbed at the condition of our youth group when I was younger. All these people got up and left pretty much at the same time which consequently left my age group in most of the leadership positions. It was disappointing and frightening at that time.

God pulled through like he always does though. He raised up a whole new set of leaders to take the places that they left to pursue where God was calling them. He did amazing things in their lives and in our lives. It was great to catch up with everyone and see where God has taken them. It only makes me more excited to see where God takes my friends and everyone that I grew up with. In about five years from now there will be another one of these reunions, and once again we will see how God has come through in so many lives.
