Marva Dawn

The most recent book that I have cracked open is one that Eugene Peterson (author of The Message, that paraphrase everyone either loves or hates) and Marva Dawn. It’s called the Unnecessary Pastor. I’m only a few chapters in and I’m loving it. I’ve also read another book by Marva Dawn called Reaching out Without Dumbing Down, an interesting and thought provoking book on worship. All that to say that I was more that thrilled to see Marva Dawn speak three times in the last two days at Tyndale. She spoke on Faithfulness in the face of Fortune and the Consumerism in the church. I must say, I was extremly impressed. She was an excellent, humble and amazing teacher. She had my attention every lecture and her sweetness kept me tuned in and always intent. I won’t go into everything that she said, my roomate Darryl who doesn’t post all that often (cause he saves it for the good stuff) made a post on something that stuck out to both of us. Check out his post here.

Really this post was a large introduction to Darryl’s post. Since I love the point so much, I think everyone should read it. Hopefully, over time we will expand on it more.
